Accra Splash Series
Painted in 2009-2010, these pieces were begun during a stay in Ghana, and are inspired by a type of fabric available on the market called “splash” which is the result of accidental bursts of color and pattern that occur at the end of a factory-made printing run when screens go off-register. The scraping technique, and the colors I used in these, evoke the vibrant colors and flamboyant personalities I associate with Ghana’s capital city of Accra.
